Nick Barber was born and raised in Moonbi, just north of Tamworth NSW. After finish High School in Tamworth Nick moved to Sydney to study Physiotherapy. After a short career as a Physiotherapist Nick felt called into full time ministry. Nick studied at Morling College. Nick served on staff at GracePoint Christian Church in Sydney before moving to Yass in September 2014 to take on the role of Senior Pastor at Yass Community Baptist Church. Nick is married to Kristy Barber and together they raise three energetic young boys. Together, Nick and Kristy are passionate about Jesus, the local church and loving the local community. Nick's personal vision is "to see Christ fully formed in himself, his family, the local church, and the local community." He has a passion for reading, writing about and sharing God’s word and can’t get enough of seeing an “A-ha” moment in someone’s eyes.
Nick loves coffee and enjoys cycling when he gets the chance. He also tries to challenge himself by learning new things. He is currently learning bass guitar or so we’ve been told because he’s not yet ready to show off his skills.
Steve can frequently be found behind the coffee machine, the wheel of the Op Shop Bus, his business "Steve's Quality Cars" or anywhere there is someone in need. Steve is always ready with a smile and a dad joke which any of his three adult daughters can tell you. Originally from New Zealand, Steve has lived in a number of places including Adelaide where he met his wife Lesley. After moving to Yass, Steve ran the local IT store for a number of years before passing it on so that he could spend more time with his family and the community.
Pete Randle is passionate about serving others including the local church and community. Hospitality seems to run in his veins as he serves faithfully in all he does. Family is a core value for Pete and the church family is also close to his heart. Always willing to help out where there is a need, you might possibly catch him up on our roof on occasion or off improving the property somewhere. Pete lives with his wife Veronica and together they have raised two sons and have several grandchildren.
Cheryl has such a way with numbers and people so that she can even make accounting sound interesting. She also has a huge heart for the church and the community and serves both faithfully and graciously. Always ready with a smile and her cheeky sense of humour, it is always a joy to have her around. She and her husband Peter have lived in Yass for almost 2 decades and live with their three children. YCBC is blessed to have Cheryl managing our finances.
DEACON | NEIL GLASSFORD
Amongst other things Neil fulfils the role of our caretaker, providing handyman skills and assistance wherever and whenever needed. He can frequently be seen quietly fixing something in the background just because he thought it needed doing. Neil has a passion for the church and her people and shares this love with his wife, Deb and their four children.
DEACON | ALEX HOLGATE
If ever there is a camera present, Alex is probably the one behind the lens. She is also a born administrator who loves to see things progress in an orderly fashion. This is often balanced by her husband, Karl who constantly likes to think up new ways to make a positive impact on the local community. Relatively new to Yass, Alex and Karl have made this town their home which they share with their two young children.
